Williamwood Pipe Band

Williamwood Pipe Band are ideally placed to provide a full, or reduced pipe band for any events in central Scotland, or further afield.

The band originates from 1945 and the 128th Glasgow Company of the Boys' Brigade, through time evolving into Williamwood Pipe Band, and sustaining itself as one of the few long standing established pipe bands in Glasgow.

In 2002, the band lifted the World Championship title, and were also crowned Grade 4B Champion of Champions. So began the rise of the band as it is today. Following promotion to Grade 4A, the band again lifted the World Championship title the following year and finished second in the Champion of Champions table. This resulted in a further promotion to Grade 3B.  2005 was the bands 60th Anniversary and in the 2006 season, the band managed to secure promotion to grade 3A, winning the European Championships and coming second in the Scottish Championships.  Pipe Major Iain Wyper, subsequently led the band to the top of the Grade 3A Champion of Champions Table in 2009, winning the British and Cowal Championships with a very credible 2nd place at the World Championships.  Building on previous successes, this saw the band promoted to Grade 2.

2010 was the bands first season in Grade 2 under the leadership of Pipe Major Ewan Henderson, and was marked by a debut prize in the Scottish Championships.  Ewan had previously spent 12 years with the famous Grade 1 Strathclyde Police Pipe Band, latterly as Pipe Sergeant.  Today, the band is very excited, committed and focused on building on all the previous successes and continuing our development towards the top of Grade 2.

Outwith the competition circle, the band has years of experience playing in a professional capacity.   They have have travelled and performed in Germany, Spain, Italy and Morocco in recent years as well as playing at high profile engagements such as PGA Moroccan Open, Glasgow's Winterfest Celebrations, and the Scottish Grand National and Gold Cup.  The band has experience playing at a full range of events, including weddings, is very smartly turned out in the Black Stewart tartan, and takes great pride in their high quality and progressive musical abiliy.
