Scotia Pipers

Chris Thomson

Chris grew up in the Scottish Highlands, learning his early piping discipline with Dr. Kenneth Mackay and the local Strathspey Royal British Legion Pipe Band, an experience compounded over several years in Glasgow & Strathclyde University Officer Training Corps Pipes & Drums where he served as Pipe Sergeant and honed his skills as a regular solo piper at countless formal military dinners and ceremonies.  On leaving university, he embarked on a competing career with bands including Strathearn and Scottish Gas, regularly travelling to the world-famous Breton music festivals in France, before combining his day job as a police constable with several successful seasons and international performances with the world record-breaking Strathclyde Police Pipe Band. Chris has now taken over the reins of the band where it all began and helped to re-establish it as Badenoch & Strathspey Pipe Band. Regular solo piping engagements - from weddings and ceilidhs to PR events and formal dinners - now take Chris as far away as South Korea and Thailand or as close as just a few steps from his front door in the Highlands.
